What is Mifegymiso?

How can you get Mifegymiso?

Mifegymiso — also called the abortion pill, medical abortion, and medication abortion — is a combination of two medications used for abortion. It’s safe, effective, and allows individuals to end a pregnancy. It can be used to terminate a pregnancy up to 12 weeks gestational age, but some providers may only prescribe it up to 9 weeks. It is fully covered by OHIP.

You must get a prescription for mifegymiso before visiting a pharmacy. In Ontario, nurse practitioners and doctors can prescribe mifegymiso. For a list of where you can get a prescription in and around the Niagara Region, go to our Abortion Clinics webpage

What is the Mife Map?

We called 143 pharmacies in the Niagara Region to ask if they carry Mife and how quickly they can order it if they don’t keep it in stock. Out of the 143 pharmacies we called, 114 stated that they carry Mife or can order it to be delivered the next day. That’s 80% of pharmacies in Niagara! Use the map to determine which pharmacies near you will dispense Mife. Always call the pharmacy first before going to be sure!
