• Transitional housing for Indigenous women with or without children. Must have a referral from another agency. This is not an emergency shelter. Abbey House charges a pro-rated rent based on 30 per cent of the resident’s income and allows them to stay for up to three years.

Canadian Mental Health Association — Niagara Branch

• CMHA Safe Beds program offers non-medical, short-term residential services for individuals experiencing mental health crises including crisis support, counselling, safety and recovery planning, and basic living needs. Individuals must receive a referral by calling the number listed. Must be 16 or older. Disclaimer: COAST is a non-emergent mobile crisis response unit that operates in partnership with healthcare workers and the Niagara Regional Police in the event that crisis intervention is requested.

Emergency Seasonal Shelter

• Formerly called Out Of The Cold. Emergency (overnight only) shelter for men and women operated by Start Me Up Niagara. November 1st – March 31st, though often extended past March.
• PLEASE NOTE CONNECTION TO POLICE: Regularly invites police to the shelter and warming shelter when guests are present.

Nightlight Youth Shelter

• “Short Term residence is for youth who are homeless or are without secure stable housing. The residence provides youth experiencing homelessness with temporary shelter and basic needs, as well as a comprehensive support system including 24-hour staffing and intake, access to community resources and the implementation of various Development Programs.”

• The shelter is high barrier and religiously affiliated.

• NOTE: Southridge Church has hosted fundraisers for anti-abortion groups.
